AVID
Avid Students

AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) is a college-readiness program designed to increase the number of students who enroll in four-year colleges. AVID focuses on the least served students in the academic middle. The formula is simple - raise expectations of students and, with the AVID support system in place, they will rise to the challenge. Students apply, interview, and go through a selection process in this elective class. Once chosen, they are required to enroll in at least one advanced placement class.

CDMS AVID

Here at Castle Dome Middle School, we are proud to have three AVID elective classes: one for each grade level (6th, 7th, and 8th).

In the AVID class, students have access to:

  • college information
  • rigorous curriculum
  • guest speakers
  • tutorial support twice a week

We are beginning the application process for the 2010-2011 AVID elective. We hope to have additional AVID classes if we have a sufficient number of successful candidates. Please remember, students must apply for the program each year.

Our application timeline is:

  • May 5: AVID student information meeting during homeroom for current CDMS students
  • May 6-7: 7th and 8th grades will have the Arizona Colleges Campus Tours Field Trip (Phoenix and Tucson)
  • May 10: 2010 applications are due
  • May 13: Interviews for current CDMS students
